The world we inhabit, may not have collided with a rogue comet, bust into flames ignited by colossal flares from the sun, been over-run by a new virus or been turned magnetically on its head… however it is changing, and begs the question, are we ready to face our future? When destiny comes knocking will you be ready, emotionally, spiritually and physically to rise up and answer the door? And I mean this in very practical terms, just as our seasons seem to be shifting, we need to shift our reliance on instant gratification and leaving it to others to sort us out, to being more self-reliant, thinking ahead for ourselves and doing things for ourselves. Basic skills, such as cooking, sewing, metalwork, woodwork should be as fundamental as literacy and numeracy in education, regardless of gender or background. I have been encouraged to see that ‘Mindfulness’ is starting to reach our youngsters. Whichever method of self-awareness or balance we employ to make a mark on the young, it has to be a good thing. ‘Back to basics’ and ‘Be prepared’ are famous mottos and, as we are experiencing now, they are so for very good reasons…
